The Enemy Within

The Enemy Within

© by Bud Lemire on Dec 30, 2018

For some of us, the enemy lives within

We fight them off, but we can never win

Life's battle scars, has left us very sore

We want to relax, but all we do is roar

We bang the drum, we bang the wall

We crash the carts, right in the hall

We scare the people, that we are around

We're out of control, we keep losing ground

I fought for our country, in a mighty war

Now I fight demons, that keep coming through my door

I know you can't see them, yet they're real to me

You would understand, if you knew my history

They gave me medicine, to keep me in control

Yet all I want to do, is crawl out of this hole

Break free, of these enemies within

Part of me knows, I will never win

I never asked for this, I never did

I started off, as a normal kid

Along the way, something happened to me

The things you don't know, are the things that I see

We never know everyone's story. How they came to

be who they are today. What they've been through

in their lifetime. Then one day we know more, and

understand their story a little better. Can we truly

say that under the same circumstances, that it could

have been us. Yes, if we had traveled their journey.

But we didn't and they did, and they have to live with

it. But we can take what we learned, and understand

a little better of where they are coming from, and what

they are going through.

Each New Year

Each New Year

© by Bud Lemire on Dec 19, 2018

You never know, what each new year will bring

It could come at any time, or be anything

Oh, what an adventure each new year can be

Unlike the previous one, all new to me

The pictures I'll take, the poems I will write

A summer day on the island, taking in some delight

An event in the area, will bring such a crowd

I'll capture it perfectly, I won't be too proud

What's in the new year for you?

Can you imagine, what you will do?

Each year, I learn as I grow

There's always something new you should know

The calendar's pages, turn so very fast

Times are too precious, moments don't last

Memories fade, yet in pictures they stand still

Words in a poem, can be an emotional pill

What will each new year, hold for you

Will it hold fast, will it be true

One step forward, and you'll find out

Try to be positive, there's no room for doubt

I hope your New Year is a great one. Remember to

enjoy each moment, and be aware of the greatness in it.

That moment may never come again. So cherish it, and

learn from it, and grow from it. Like an adventure, travel

down each day, week, month, and year, and explore your

life. And remember most of all, add love to each day. You

will find by doing this, life will be so much better.

The Cristmas Bell

The Christmas Bell

© by Bud Lemire on Dec 19, 2018

All was silent, on this Christmas night

The tree was lit, with a colorful light

Ornaments hanging, from the tree

One was a bell, given to me

On this silent night, in this winter wonderland

That bell started ringing, not by a human hand

Mom gave it to me, and then she went

She said when it rings, it'll be Heaven sent

The family surrounded the tree, as it rang

It was Mom's favorite song, that they sang

They could almost hear her, singing along

This love they felt, was what made them strong

She always loved this time of year

They each felt her love, as it drew near

She loved each one so very much

One by one, they felt her Heavenly touch

They remembered the last words she said

Just before her body became dead

When you stand around the Christmas Tree”

If the bell should ring, you'll know it's me”

Mom was never one to pass up a family event

Each of them knew, that bell, was Heaven sent

So often we think those who left this world are gone.

Yet they can be so very close, we can feel them. Just

remember their human bodies are gone, but their souls

within become amazing spirits that gather around the

ones they love. They try to tell us, but we have not

tuned them in. So they try whatever means they can

to remind us, that at Christmas time, they are with us.

What We Become

What We Become

© by Bud Lemire on Dec 8, 2018

Our parents teach us, the best that they can

With hopes that we, will follow the plan

It doesn't matter, where we come from

It's what we do with what we have, and what we become

It's what we want, it's what we need

That's measured out, in the life that we lead

To make each moment, count for something more

To me, I believe, that's what we're living for

Leaving an impression, for others to follow

To fill our roles, with a life we can swallow

The path we travel, on the journey we take

Will have challenges, with each choice we make

Within, we have the strength to prevail

It's our journey, so how can we fail

If we get stuck, and we're in doubt

We need to reaffirm, what life is about

I find helping others, is something I treasure

A life's gift, that is always a pleasure

You may want to sit, and do nothing at all

If that's the case, I hope you hear the call

When you are older, and are looking back

What was needed, what did you lack

We have so much that we could do, in our life's total sum

It's what we do with what we have, and what we become

I truly believe, we have it in us to become what we truly wish to be.

We just have to strive for it. Even if we think we are going in the

wrong direction and realize it, we have the power to change it

and go in the right direction. Our life is ours to live, and mold

it into what we want. No matter where we are, or who we are.

Be someone that you can be proud of in yourself, because it is

all about What We Become.

Faith In Us

Faith In Us

© by Bud Lemire on Nov 28, 2018

You have to have faith in us

Believe and have some trust

Remember what we have, is the very best

What we each go through, is only a test

Many times, we keep learning about each other

So that we can give, the best love to one another

We learn about ourselves, with every step we take

The life we have together, is only ours to make

Whenever we wonder what happened, to keep us apart

Remember our love is best together, then we can restart

Then our love, can resume

Get the facts straight, never assume

Remember, our love for each other is strong

With each other, is where we belong

The batteries of our soul

When apart, will get low

We need to connect, to re-energize

Words for Twin Flames, actions for the wise

Faith in us, always believe

Love for each other, is best to receive

Why does he do that, why does she do this

Why do I feel so alone, something is amiss

What pulled you apart

Can be mended with your heart

With words of love so true

I miss, and want to be with you”

Time is wasted, cherish every minute

Love is best, when you both are in it

Think of how you feel, when you are together

Without the pain, there is constant pleasure

Remember, you can change what will be

Love spent together, is the only key

Don't belittle the other, lift them up high

A strong connection, will never mean goodbye

Tears that fall, should stay in the eye

Sadness shouldn't be, the thing that makes you cry

Love and happiness, strengthens the soul

Makes the heart beat stronger, with all it will show

The Love you share, can always be complete

If you come together, halfway you should meet

Hold true to your heart, and always trust

Believe in our love, have Faith In Us

Many times it's the little things that pull us apart.

But it's the big things that keep our love coming back

to each other. We should center on the big things, such

as how we feel when we are hearing and feeling each

other. Instead of finding flaws that we each have. Nobody

is perfect, but it's who we are, that have brought us together

in the union of love. And that love alone, should be strong

enough to keep us together, and give us the faith we need to

believe we are meant to be together, in this act of love.

Marie, A Wonderful Soul

Marie, A Wonderful Soul

© by Bud Lemire on Nov 9, 2018

There's a wonderful soul, who lives all alone

In a place where she lives, and she calls home

Her hearing isn't good, her sight isn't great

The little things in life, is what she appreciates

She watches TV, in her home every night

A special soul, who's embraced by the light

All she wants, is to be free to do

Everything, that would come easily to you

To watch the Detroit Lions, and enjoy every game

Win or lose, she'd enjoy it all the same

Her Angels surround her, all over the place

They guide her daily, with all she will face

Family stops by, to see if she is okay

Her life through the year, is a normal day

A game of Cribbage, when her Senior Companion is there

Just good company, with a good friend to share

She has a Walker, and a Wheelchair

She loves her awning, she'll sit and stare

I know this woman, and I will tell you

She appreciates everything, that you will do

If you listen closely, you just might hear

The Angels that sing, just for her ear

Let freedom be, as long as it can for this soul

Life is short enough, and this you should know

When you get older, wouldn't you like your freedom too

To still be able to do, all the things that you do

This poem is for my friend who I play Cribbage with

every Friday. Marie Sundberg. you are a dear lady

who deserves all the good things in life, Everyone

who comes into contact with you cannot help but

like you. Your soul shines and radiates for all to

see and hear. Thank you, for being my friend.

Pain, Covered Up With A Smile

Pain, Covered Up With A Smile

© by Bud Lemire on Nov 17, 2018

Life now, is nothing more than pain, covered up with a smile

I've forgotten what it is to feel normal, it's been quite awhile

I'm so tired of living every day in fear

Not so much of dying, but the pain within each year

Every moment, so scared and so unsure

Of what will happen next, hoping for a cure

They try everything, I feel like a guinea pig

A bone marrow biopsy, so much pain when they dig

Yes, I won't deny it, I get very depressed

Each day can be a struggle, because I am always stressed

Blood transfusions, always going for some test

The Doctors remind me, to take time to rest

These days I use a Walker, and I wear a mask

Then there are those people, who always have to ask

I try not to let them know, what I'm going through

In this poem right now, you will have a clue

I have to watch my body, for any symptoms that appear

Then call the Doctors quickly, which activates my fear

For many years, I have lived and battled this

Praying that some day, I'll have a little bit more bliss

Pain and fear together are no fun to have. I hope someday

that I can have a somewhat normal life again. Once again,

I hope by reading this poem, you will understand what we

have to go through on a daily basis. It is no fun, and I wouldn't

wish this on anyone.

Thanksgiving Is All About Thankfulness

Thanksgiving Is All About Thankfulness

© by Bud Lemire on Nov 9, 2018

To Me, this is the meaning of Thanksgiving

Those in my life, whether passed, or still living

Thanking those in my life, and the kindness they share

By showing me good people, and that they really care

By knowing I am in, a really good home

They truly appreciate, when I share a poem

To know I am appreciated, in all that I do

And my dear neighbor, I truly appreciate you

Everyone we touch, in our lives every day

Has some sort of effect, on us in some way

Family and friends, each person that we know

Pass through our lives, touching upon our soul

It's not really about the meal, served on Thanksgiving day

It's all about the things and people, who have touched us in some way

The people who always find a way, to always stay in touch

The ones who show us their love, and show us just how much

The ones we can feel, deep down in our heart

The ones we know, will always be a special part

Souls that connect, will never be alone

Hearts that beat together, will never turn to stone

Never let a day pass, without being thankful for love

That we feel for others, we're always thinking of

Especially I feel, on this special Thanksgiving

Thank God for those passed, and those who are still living

For they have all, touched upon our lives in a wonderful way

Thanks for what they're always giving, on this Thanksgiving Day

The Thanksgiving meal always tastes really good. Beyond that,

I am so thankful for such good friends, who show how much they

care. Being a part of my life, is truly a blessing. I am happy to

have them in my life, and to know them. Those who have passed,

continue to be watching me from Heaven. Still touching me from

that Spiritual place. Those who are in my life presently, continue

to show their love and support and friendship, in a thankful way.

So I appreciate them, and I say Thanks For The Giving, for what

you are always giving me.

I'm Afraid Of Needles

I'm Afraid Of Needles

© by Bud Lemire on Sept 20, 2018

I'm afraid of needles, I look the other way

Wishing it was over and done, and it was yesterday

They need to take some blood, I hope they get it right

Jabbing me more than once, gives me such a fright

At first, it's just a little prick

I start a conversation, and it does the trick

Before you know it, a cotton swab is in place

You can see relief, written all over my face

I'm not the only one, who fears needles like I do

There are many of us, and I know this is true

I know, for sure, that it's all in our head

Calming words can help us, with what's being said

Distractions, keeps our mind from fear

Soothing are the words, that we always hear

Thoughts that are positive, help us make it through

These are things, that may work for you

Life can bring us many things, that can bring on fear

Some cause us so much, they bring on a tear

But if we believe, that everything will be okay

Positive thoughts, will bring us to a better day

Yes, it's true I do have a fear of needles. But I have

learned to think positive, and it does help. I have

heard of others who I would never believed, that

are afraid of them. That is why many do not go to

the Doctor unless they really need to. I can understand

their fear. But I have found ways around it. Let your

mind wander, positive thoughts, distractions, because it

is over real quick. Then you will wonder, why did you

waste time worrying about it.

Tennis Elbow

Tennis Elbow

© by Bud Lemire on Oct 4, 2018

They say I have Tennis Elbow, but I never played Tennis before

I can tell you one thing, my arm sure is sore

It feels like a snake bit me, and that snake is still there

Constant pain down my arm, as for pain, I've had my share

I went to see my Doctor, she sent me to therapy

Now I am exercising, and putting ice on me

I wonder if I'll have to eat Elbow Macaroni too

I wonder how long it'll take, before I'm through

I can feel that pain in the back of my shoulder

With that ice that I'm using, it sure is colder

They gave me a list of things I'm suppose to do

I never played Tennis, at least not that I knew

People have told me, you can get it from many things

Life and its activities, and whatever it brings

Maybe I took too many pictures, and now I'm paying the price

Or played too many games, where I was throwing the dice

I thought I did this, while asleep one night

Woke up and felt pain, like someone beat me in a fight

Or maybe while grocery shopping, my heavy backpack did this to me

Whatever the case, I wish to set this pain free

Not really sure how I got this. It's been told many people get this.

So now I'm dealing with it. I can still do most things I do, and I am

keeping the pain under control. I just need to learn to rest often,

and keep following what the therapists are telling me. The pain

seems to be lessening to some degree, so it must be working.

Anyone for Tennis? Forget it, I'm taking up Ping Pong.

Hazelnut

Hazelnut

© by Bud Lemire on Sept 5, 2018

I love to travel back in my memory, to when I was a kid

And think of all the things, that as kids we did

One was picking Hazelnuts, at Pioneer Trail Park one day

You had to wear gloves, to keep their bristles away

They were on the outside of the Hazelnut, when you pick

They'd get all over your hand, and they sure would stick

Pull off the green skin with the pickers, and the nut was there

It tasted so very good, you almost didn't want to share

Yet there were enough Hazelnuts, to go around

Some of them were seen, lying on the ground

Corylus Cornuta, or the Beaked Hazelnut as it is known

Looks like a beak or horn, wherever it is grown

It prefers the sun, yet tolerates some shade

It's taste is so great, you really have it made

It's a shrub, that grows close to 10 feet

All I know for sure is, they sure are good to eat

Depending on where you are, the nuts will be large or small

But if you're nutty like me, you will love them all

There are two kinds of Hazelnuts, The American and the Beaked kind

They are also widespread in Europe and Asia, you will find

Some call them Filberts, or the Cob Nut as well

You find them with the Mixed Nuts, and they always sell

It was the Beaked Hazelnut, that we had around here

We'd peel the husk off, grinning ear to ear

We'd wear gloves, so those picky hairs wouldn't get on either hand

This was a wonderful childhood memory, I thought it was grand

Back in the 60's, Dad would take us way in back of Pioneer Trail Park

and they had the Beaked Hazelnuts there. We'd wear gloves and pick

them. Bring them home, and sit on the back porch peeling them.

Many times we'd eat a nut or two while we peeled, but we had to

make sure we had all those bristles from the skin off our hands.

Those were the good old days. Anyone else ever pick Hazelnuts?

Perception Changes

Perception Changes

© by Bud Lemire on Aug 18, 2018

Have you ever noticed, how your perception changes over time

While the things remain the same, they seem different to your mind

Something that you had read in a book

Now seems to have a different outlook

Something you watched on TV, years ago

Seems so different, that what you use to know

The book and the TV show didn't change, it's true

Your perception in life, changed all that you knew

You may meet up sometime in life, with a childhood friend

They aren't quite the same, as you you remembered them then

Maybe you changed, maybe they did

Yet you know they were different, when you were a kid

Life and our journey, changes us through the years

Experiences and time, and the many tears

We tend to view things, in a different way

It happens little by little, almost every day

I think of it as a learning experience, that we go through

We grow to be better, with everything we do

You may have noticed, your perception changes over time

You're not imagining it, it's the growth of your mind

As you move in time with the Universe, your views will

see things differently than they once did. If you wrote

down your views and feelings in a journal or diary as a kid, you

would see as an adult, your views and feelings have changed.

Now you look at that same thing as an older adult, and your

views on it have changed again. It's true, Perception Changes.

Golden Rod

Golden Rod

© by Bud Lemire on Aug 22, 2018

Golden Rod is strongly in the air once more

Behind my eyes, in my head, making me feel sore

Why do you pick on me, Golden Rod

Making me feel sore, on all parts of my bod

Down there by the water, I didn't know that was you

In fact I didn't realize, all the things that you could do

You're nasty, and got my eyes a itching

I don't mean to be doing this bitching

There's rag weed, and so much more

Making my nose run, and my eyes sore

I take a pill for allergies, every day

Hoping they can keep, the allergies away

By the time night comes upon me

My eyes itch and water, and it's hard to see

Sometimes I'm blowing my nose so much

It gets very sore, and is hard to touch

One time there was Golden Rod, in a picture that I took

When I'm in the kitchen, I sneeze when I cook

Be careful of Golden Rod, you have allergies

Grab a tissue or hanky, because you'll start to sneeze

I never realized all the sneezing that Golden Rod can cause.

But it could be other things around here as well that is a

combination and causing me to sneeze. Achoo! Yes, it's

that time again.

Terry's Double

Terry's Double

© by Bud Lemire on Aug 25, 2018

It happened one day, while I was at the U. P. State Fair

I couldn't believe my eyes, I couldn't help but stare

It couldn't be my brother Terry, he had passed away

Yet there was his double, on this certain day

Holding a camera, taking a picture of a camel there

He wore a cap, one that Terry would never wear

And his shirt, was one I could picture Terry wearing

I took a picture, because it's not polite to be staring

I wanted to say something, but I couldn't talk

It seemed that my whole body, was in a state of shock

I know my brother Terry passed, who who could this man be

So many questions, started to come to me

They say everyone has a double, maybe it is true

If this happened, what is it you would do

Would you have found, there was something to say

If you saw someone, who you knew had passed away

There standing before me, was an image of someone I knew

And yet it wasn't him, so what else could I do

Terry loved to spend his time at the Fair

After he passed, I never thought I'd see him there

There at the Petting Zoo, by the Camel at the U. P. State Fair 2018,

I saw a man who looked like my brother Terry. He had a flat cap on,

like my Dad use to wear, but his shirt was like one Terry use to wear.

He was taking a picture of the Camel with his camera. I was amazed

at the resemblance to my brother Terry. I should have said something.

All I could do is stare at him as he watched the Camel. I took a picture

to capture the moment. I wished I would have found out who this man

was who looked like my brother Terry. He might have been a relative.

It is amazing the things you'll see at the Fair.

Some Of My Friends Are Butterflies

Some Of My Friends Are Butterflies
Aug 16, 2018 © by Bud Lemire

Some of my friends are Butterflies”

Said a little girl, her words were so wise

Our encounter, was in the Butterfly tent

I believe her words, were Heaven sent

The Monarchs were flying, one landed on me

She took it off, and then set it free

One landed on my cap, she pointed where

So I aimed my camera, and snapped a picture there

Then I took a picture of her, with a Butterfly on her stick

I just captured the moment, with one little click

The Butterflies sure loved the purple flower

I could have stayed there for over an hour

Like a Butterfly, flying with its wings

I take from each moment, and what it brings

A picture is still, yet the memory is there

And it can be played, when you're anywhere

That little girl had an insight, which she shared with me

Believing is possible, beyond what you see

The Butterfly Tent, was at the U. P. State Fair

Where I met a little girl, who was well aware

When that little girl told me some of her friends were

Butterflies. I had so many questions to ask her about

what made her think that. Because I believe that spirits

who have passed, can visit us as many things, one of which

is Butterflies.

Do You See Me?

Do You See Me?

© by Bud Lemire on Aug 8, 2018

Passing right before your eyes

It's a loved one in disguise

Saying “Do You See Me?”

Do you wonder who it might be

Mom, is that you?”

Oh, if you only knew

Spirits do much more, than you could ever know

There's so much, that they like to show

Yet some just do not seem to see

They never wonder who it could be

You could pass by, in front of their nose

They wouldn't know, unless you stepped on their toes

Flying right next to their face

Up and away, to another place

Getting your attention, makes their day

You're aware, in a special way

Your loved one could be...

A bird singing in a tree

A smile that starts your day

To hear a bird song, and see a sun ray

Your life goes on, ours does too”

We're close by, our love is for you”

We've passed, but not away”

Another form, another day”

We have wings, to carry our soul”

If you see us, you're more whole”

Let's see a realization smile, when you see”

The butterfly that flew by, was really me”

In my belief, I do believe that spirits passed

do come by in forms of butterflies, dragonflies,

birds, and various other creatures. To let us

know their love is always with us. They come

at just that special time when we need them most.

My Soul Sings

My Soul Sings

© by Bud Lemire on July 19, 2018

It was I who came to you last night

I truly didn't mean to cause a fright

I called your name, but you didn't hear

You need to open up, you have nothing to fear

I rattled your dragonfly, it went crashing to the ground

When you looked, that's where it was found

In your refrigerator, I clinked the glasses there

It was I who did it, but you seemed not to care

Raise your vibration, become aware of me
There's really nothing to fear, be all you can be

Trust your instincts, because I believe in you

I'm not a ghost, so I won't be saying Boo!

I came to let you know, I'll be by your side

As you already know, only my body died

Don't even have to arrange a trip, I'll be there in a snap

Sure beats planning a plane or train, no more traveling crap

I am so happy now, and I am so free

The world, my life, now I understand and see

I didn't know, so many things

Now I do, and My Soul Sings

This is dedicated to my dear friend and cousin Paul

Lemire of Hinton Alberta Canada, who now makes his

home in Heaven. For 18 years we corresponded by e-mail.

And now his spirit watches over me, along with so many

other family members and friends. Thank you Paul!

Play It Again, Jerry

Play It Again, Jerry

© by Bud Lemire on June 13, 2018

He plays some great tunes, on the piano keys

With his magic for music, and the greatest of ease

Play it again, Jerry, I've got a request

I know when you play, it is the best

Tune up the piano, because of the weather

Because what you play, it gives us so much pleasure

With a smile on his face, he plays

The piano keys move, and he swings and sways

The Entertainer, he'll play for you

He even plays the Accordion too

Come on people, let's listen to Jerry

The music he plays, will make you feel merry

His sense of humor, brings a laugh from the crowd

Many will smile, and laugh out loud

That's not the name of the song!

He knows that already, he's never wrong

Thanks for the music Jerry, you struck the right key

A song means a lot, when it is played for me

You brought back some memories, with the song you played

Look at my face, and you can see the smile it has made

You got my soul a dancing, I just had to say

Let's hear another song Jerry, let's hear you play

I first heard Jerry Beauchamp on the Accordion at North Woods

Place. He's played many years on Mackinac Island. His ear for

music has brought music to the ears of his audience. He plays

music with a musical talent and so much zest. He tunes the piano

so it plays the best, so he can give his best. Thank you my friend

for playing the music we love to hear.
