Every now and then something happens at the Tower
That shows to me that many have the power
To put their hands together and to become one
Helping one another is the way to get things done
When someone needs help and you come to their aide
You know you're in a place where you've got it made
Where people unite to help those in need of it
It's called keeping the community's candle lit
One starts it by deciding to help the other
Then before you know it there is another
It feels so good to help someone this way
Helping to make it a much better day
Whether it's something to teach or to relieve some pain
I always think of it as something we can gain
Enriching our soul for a good deed well done
Is what you get when you're helping someone
A great feeling is better than any money given
The soul is more complete in the life it's living
You've added color to someone's world of grays
Knowledge and friendship goes a long long ways
I got the idea for this poem when I heard that someone here at Harbor Tower needed help with something, and several of the residents took turns by going down and help them with it. When I heard the story from that person, I decided to write this poem. I wanted to show how proud I am to have those people here where I live. We see many people here at the Harbor Tower, and never know their life's story, yet know when they need a hand, we give it to them. We all have a hidden story we keep from others, and we all need a chance to prove that with friends backing us up, we can prove we are worthy of being a friend and being a better person.
