Promises
By Bud Lemire in 2003
Promises come
in many different situations, presented here on earth
Some are
those made before, and some after our birth
Many are
choices, that are within our own hands
Others are
daily changes, like time upon the sands
One is to be
faithful, and never lie or cheat
So many fail
this, and end up with words they eat
The trust
there is broken, the bond is torn apart
And the pain
touches deeply, upon our very heart
Some are
lighter promises, like ripples near the shore
You make them
at a moment, never knowing what’s in store
We have no
control over these, they pass with every change
Because we
find our lives, we need to rearrange
There’s a
promise to yourself, to do your very best
To conquer
every problem, never giving it a rest
And if you’re
doing that, there’s nothing to regret
You took on
every problem, faced everything you met
But, before
you make a promise, be sure it’s one you keep
Never climb
that mountain, if you think that it’s too steep
Remember
this, promises that are not spoken
Are the
promises, that are never broken
