Ruby

2003 by Bud Lemire

Ruby, you’re a gem shining bright as can be
Ever since I’ve known you, you’ve been special to me
You gave me a warm welcome, when I got in touch with you
I thought I would tell you in this poem, because that’s what I do

You’re the oldest in the family, of my Grandmother’s brother
And are First Cousin to me, and exactly to my Mother
Born into this world with the last name of Duford
A cold day in March, brought here by our dear lord

Words and memories shared, as we talked on the phone
Talking of the people, who long ago turned to bone
Keeping them alive, to be our guiding light
And keep them in our prayers, silently every night

Playing of the organ, with your fingers on the keys
Warmed by gentle spirits, guiding you so you won’t freeze
You’ve come a long way, to be just where you are
I’m glad you made life’s journey, and that is by far

I’m so happy that I met you, and had the time to say
That you are in my thoughts, each and every day
Friend and cousin, you are special, I treasure every minute
The world became a better place for me, because you were in it

Thank you dear cousin Ruby Duford-Fosterling, for sharing so much of the memories of our relatives
