In The New Year

In The New Year

In the New Year, I wish for normality

All the things, that mean the most to me

Everyone treated as equal, no one is above

All the hate banished, and a lot more love

No force, no enemies, friends working together

All the special moments, that we can treasure

No pointing fingers, with revenge, at those who disagree

Nobody should be a prisoner, in the land of the free

Nobody should ever, in this world, be abused

It's not the human way, for anyone to be used

In this country, we need so much more respect

To add to that, we need to have less neglect

Freedom should always ring true, in this country we live in

I believe 2026, is a great place for better things to begin

Liars, cheaters, the rich, and those who have the power to do

Should never be the ones, to ever undermine you

Adults should never, sexually abuse anyone

That should never be, anyone's idea of fun

This has got to stop, and I mean right away!

This isn't the USA, when all colors turn to gray

In the New Year, let's bring back normality

This year it wasn't, the way it should ever be

There's so much more to add to this, but I will end it here.

I want the America back, the one I know and love.

We the people, must bring it back.

The House Of Ludington

The House Of Ludington

© by Bud Lemire on Dec 11, 2025

The House Of Ludington, has been around as long as I can remember

From the beginning of January, all the way to the end of December

Out my window, at sunset and sunrise

It always seems to catch my eyes

Rumors have it, that Pat Hayes still haunts the place

I haven't been there much, so I haven't followed the case

They say that Al Capone, stayed there before

Using tunnels to come and go, but I prefer using the door

I've only been in there once or twice

From the outside, I think it looks really nice

I passed it, every time I was on my way to the park

Taking pictures of it from the dock, at sunset, before it got dark

It's been a part of Escanaba, a part of everything I know

Lately in evenings, the House Band put on quite a show

I found out recently, they took the sign down

Reminiscing about the history, I wear a frown

On the day of the fire, I wasn't around to see

Several others, took pictures and videos for me

It's been a big part of Escanaba's history

Now it's burnt, and I wonder what will come to be

Too many fires around Escanaba, the last couple years

Too many losses, that are causing way too many tears

They say, when one thing ends, new beginnings start.

At the end of one era, another era starts.

From the ashes, rises something much better.

One can only hope, this is how it will be.

Can it get any worse? Dare I ask it?

I'm hoping that things have got to get better.

Let the music play on.
