Bulbs & Watermelon Seeds

I remember long ago, on a special Father’s Day
We were thinking of our Dad, in only a kid’s way
We didn’t know what to buy him, or what he’d really like
He spent so many times, working on our bike
Most of all, this was a day especially for Dad
So what could we get him, that wouldn’t be too bad
We had to get him, something he could use
Or should we get him something, that could possibly amuse
One never knows the outcome, of what’s in a child’s mind
And we as the children, didn’t know what we would find
We spent so much time looking, but nothing seemed to fit
We wondered about the gift, and where we would find it
Well, we put our heads together, but that sure didn’t last
So we went our separate ways, what more could we ask
We split up what little money, and searched throughout the store
Although I had not a clue, what we were searching for
When the time came, to give him the gifts we bought
We had to remember, it was not the gift but the thought
My brother John bought him light bulbs, something he always needs
And I knew he loved this fruit, so I bought him some watermelon seeds
It brought a laugh, from every family member
And it was a Father’s Day, that I’ll always remember
Happy Father’s day Dad, may your days in the spirit world
be as wonderful
as this special moment we shared together
